Get received by North East Explorers’ representative at the Imphal airport and then get driven to your lovely homestay, not far from the airport. Check-in and relax and then, later in the afternoon, start for the festival venue. If you are already feeling fresh and do not want to be at your stay after arriving, visit the State Museum to understand the history and cultural diversity of Manipur.
Today, the entire day will be dedicated to exploring the rich and historical capital city, Imphal. Full day guided tour of Imphal City covering the must-see places in Imphal like the Kangla Fort, Women’s Market (Ima Keithel), Saheed Minar, RCKS Art Gallery, Mapal Kangjeibung – the oldest living Polo Ground in the world, and the WWII Cemetery. Manipur is famous for its handloom and handicraft products and the Women’s market is the best place to pick up such things/souvenirs. You can also go for a traditional Manipuri lunch if you wish to, just let us know when we start the day. In the evening, head to the Sangai festival venue again to enjoy the proceedings of the Sangai festival.
Today we start a little early, for an interesting day – trip to Tamu, a border town in Myanmar – a place where South Asia meets Southeast Asia. In Tamu, enjoy the bustling bazaar, its friendly people, and the main Buddhist monastery. Then, top it all off with a delicious Burmese meal! And then, near Tengnoupal, enjoy the stunning views from the road at 5,000 feet of the mountains that form the India-Burma border. Drive back to Imphal. Overnight at Imphal.
Say your goodbyes to your friendly hosts at Imphal and start your drive towards the breathtakingly beautiful Loktak Lake, the largest freshwater lake in North East India and Manipur’s top tourist spot. We can get a bird’s eye view of the lake from Sendra Island. En-route, we will stop at the Second World War battlefield of Red Hill where India Peace Memorial, the only Japanese Second World War memorial in India, is located. Pay a visit to the Indian National Army (INA) Memorial Complex where men of the Indian National Army (INA) hoisted the Indian tricolor flag for the first time on Indian soil. Finally, check-in to a lovely floating homestay on the Loktak lake.
Early morning, visit the core area of the Keibul Lamjao National Park, the world’s only floating National Park to see the Sangai, the brow-antlered deer, or the ‘dancing deer’. Before lunch, go for boating at the Loktak Lake to see the fishing activities, floating huts, and the migratory birds. This boat ride is a photographer’s and nature lover’s delight. Post lunch, walk around the lake, and visit a local museum on one of the islands on the lake. Overnight at the same homestay/floating cottage.
After checking out, transfer to Imphal Airport. Flyback with a lifetime of memories.
